5 Self-limiting Beliefs you need to get rid of .. for a Creative Life (2)

Whether we want or not, our experiences influence subconscious rewriting of our beliefs (about the worldly affairs) and lead the changes in-- how we act, react and why we tend to avoid certain things.

We explored some of those self-limiting beliefs in my previous post. Let’s continue where we left off..

The misguided beliefs on Perfection

What is perfection? Actually, I don’t know. So I sat down to think and find the ingredients to define it. But, can such esoteric idea be found in men? Well, let's explore the ill-defined logics on perfection that our surrounding tries to spoon feed us.

In his book Life, the Truth, and Being Free, the author Steve Maraboli quotes,

“We have all heard that no two snowflakes are alike. Each snowflake takes the perfect form for the maximum efficiency and effectiveness for its journey. While the universal force of gravity gives them a shared destination, the expansive space in the air gives each snowflake the opportunity to take their own path. They are on the same journey, but each takes a different path.

Along with this gravity-driven journey, some snowflakes collide and damage each other, some collide and join together, some are influenced by the wind... there are so many transitions and changes that take place along the journey of the snowflake. But, no matter what the transition, the snowflake always finds itself perfectly shaped for its journey.

I find parallels in nature to be a beautiful reflection of grand orchestration. One of these parallels is of snowflakes and us. We, too, are all headed in the same direction. We are being driven by a universal force to the same destination.

We are all individuals taking different journeys and along our journey, we sometimes bump into each other, we cross paths, we become altered... we take different physical forms. But at all times we too are 100% perfectly imperfect. At every given moment we are absolutely perfect for what is required for our journey.

I’m not perfect for your journey and you’re not perfect for my journey, but I’m perfect for my journey and you’re perfect for your journey. We’re heading to the same place, we’re taking different routes, but we’re both exactly perfect the way we are.

Think of what understanding this great orchestration could mean for relationships. Imagine interacting with others knowing that they too each share this parallel with the snowflake. Like you, they are headed to the same place and no matter what they may appear like to you, they have taken the perfect form for their journey. How strong our relationships would be if we could see and respect that we are all perfectly imperfect for our journey.”

The overall conclusion-

Winners are not born but self-made. Regardless of how dreadful everything is or whatever kind of a fool you’re thinking yourself as-- show the courage to be the best you can.

It doesn’t matter how little success you’ve had in the past. It makes no difference if you are not better than your colleague or your sibling or anyone else. It doesn’t matter if you’re not born with luck. Because I believe, that’s one unrewarding and underutilized concept that somehow didn’t get filtered by the human canniness.

It also doesn’t matter if you had less confidence on yourself. Because the moment you start having these awarenesses, you start to change little by little. Thus and so, to be a winner all you have to do is take the decision to change. That’s when Incredible things will happen to you as well.

The misguided beliefs on time

breakingfree.jpgI had a hard time in understanding the effects time in my life. Because I used get hysteric by thinking how much little time I have left to accomplish the things. Especially about my job, my dreams, I mean the things I really really want to do. I also used to fear -- Am I not too old for this? At this age, do you really expect me to try this (though I am still in my twenties)?

I have also felt, you become more timider when you start thinking how older you are becoming with each passing day. I am not trying quote everyone here, it’s just a chronic mindset that people develop.

Sometimes, we delude ourselves --- that we’ll be rejected or criticized or ridiculed or worse-- will be ignored because we are not young anymore to try anything new or people may question “What in the world were you doing till now. Why didn’t you do it before.”

Who cares! This is not a questionable thing that anybody should point finger at you. In this context famous screenwriter, Eric Roth says,

It’s never too early or late to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing too. All we have to do is make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.

The misguided beliefs on intelligence

Before you decide whether you are intelligent enough to do something, let’s look at the efforts you are exerting on it. Why?

Our ancients said universe works in many mysterious ways. It is never constant nor stops.

That’s why, in precepting the world ways, the long years of experience may not help you for everything. Whatever you have read or taught may not serve you any purpose. You may not always find a good example to follow or imitate. Yet you can always try harder every day, observe the flow of things, think to the depth, find the uneventful patterns and create the solution.

It takes real wisdom to see beyond these and break out of such stumbling points. I hope, my efforts serve that purpose for you……..to build a creative life.
