The Challenge of Building Momentum around Possibilities In Organizations

When people talk about what matters to them, things they need to do, their minds become vulnerable towards new possibilities. The manifestation of momentum draws others into numerous conversations. This sounds so simple, but is it? Engaging people around possibilities is a struggle for any organization. It also differs dramatically from my management to management in terms of change efforts and sustainable initiatives.

Every momentum is like creating a small disturbance in the still water. That small current makes small waves and eventually engulfing the sea. So, momentum is not something you can create easily, it doesn’t have any rule or manual that says “This is how you engage people around possibilities.” So, leaders must manage the company’s culture and decision-making process to assure the feeling of forward motion and dynamic learning exist at all times, even when survival seems impossible.

Just do it

temenos blog.jpgIn course of building a momentum, shifting the conversation from the familiar “avoiding something bad” to doing something positive and exciting didn’t always happen quickly. It requires investment, and you can't cease yourself from addressing individuals just once. You have to go back and pursue again. But you should always know, there are many in that crowd, who are just waiting to have this kind of conversation.

Asking the Self

The key to momentum building lies in the emotional connection people begin to make to an issue. This takes time and opportunity to talk openly about what matters. Such as, in a corporate environment, issues in benefit, outgrowing market, sustainability touch people in a deep, personal manner and that can serve as a powerful catalyst for change momentum.

A talent for Decision-making

In many of my previous blogs, I have stated how decision making is a vital paradigm of leaders. I would say it once more, the organization needs to have a clear, defined and successful leadership in decision making that reflects the culture. Do your employees trust the leaders and the organization in decision making? If so, why and if not, then also ask why.... Without having confidence in this part, producing momentum is near to impossible.

We are People who Innovate

An organization is all about innovation. The organizational goal is the self-image of people’s wish, desire and efforts. What makes people more enthusiastic is the innovation of new things. As a human “Innovation is an an essential piece of our tendency..” When leaders demonstrate the vision stories that offers untold opportunities for innovation--People follow such organizations and leaders. They start to see the big picture. They understand that there must be more to this business. For example, Designers getting excited over a new design would ask a question such as --- How could we design something that’s long lasting than any of our previous products? Or How could we find the alternative way to reduce the cost of delay while maintaining quality? Such inquiries begin to change into dreams, and people naturally begin thinking of ways to create new significant worth throughout the organization.

Create an Optimistic Environment

Though the company has long ways to go before they reach zero-waste or zero-toxicity vision but many things can go better if we think positive. As a leaders/entrepreneur, you must possess attitude to do something without losing determination.

Purposeful Networking

Building leadership networks comes down to investing lots of time in one-on-one or group conversations to explore and foster engagement. If you do this well, over time your perspective will evolve --- you will understand what’s happening because of which factors and how they are affecting the system. So in an overall sense, purposeful networking is about shaping, and continually reshaping-- creating a collective sense of opportunities. The terms say “purposeful”, that doesn’t mean only approach those who listen and think others unimportant. That’s why I said in previous sentence shaping and reshaping -- allowing more and more strangers into your circle by creating interest and influence.

Dialogues with Stakeholders

They are the group, where an idea of momentum should flow without any hindrance. Identifying and engaging the key stakeholders for change should be the beginning of every momentum. The utmost way to engage with them is to make your own concerns and aspirations clear. You must not forget the person with whom you’re going to talk could be a teacher for you. Keeping that in mind, be open to your ideas, don’t make them feel “Whatever you’re saying is nothing but a sales pitch without any real thing to work on.”

This is the overall idea that I could come up in regarding what momentum is and how can we generate it. Hope this helps to create momentum in your life.
