Unemployed Soulmate

Every day
I wake up to
Find my self
Inside a
Food stamp.

Role models,
Sooth sayers,
Fish mongers,
Straw men,
Thunder deliverers,
Anvil makers,
Mountain mappers,

And

Several other
Strange professionals
Present themselves
Before me today.

I hurry up
and get dressed
for an
interview
with an
invisible savior.

I quickly learn
That
My elevator pitch
Resonates
only
With the birds.

The rows and
columns
On this form
Do not have
Space for
My past or
my future.

I want to check an
Occupation listed
And find that
my box is
Missing.

The names they
Called out for hire
Do not fit
Me.

The names they
Did not call out
Also
Do not fit
Me.

I turn
To the other side
Of the blank sheet
That I want you to
Call my
Resume.

I walk
Back into the other side
Of the blank space
That I want you to
Call my
Potential.

Every day
I wake up to
Find my self
Inside a
Food stamp.
